Sigma unveils 18-50mm f2.8-4.5 DC OS HSM lens: “PMA 2009: Sigma has unveiled a new large aperture image-stabilized standard zoom, in the shape of the 18-50mm F2.8-4.5 DC OS HSM. This lens features a new Optical Stabilization unit which Sigma claims will work on Sony and Pentax bodies with in-body stabilization systems. It also boasts a larger maximum aperture than the kit zooms typically supplied with most DSLRs, and incorporates Sigma’s Hypersonic motor for fast silent autofocus. Designed for DSLRs with APS-C/DX sized image sensors, it will be available in Sigma, Canon, Nikon, Sony and Pentax mounts.”

Nikon launches AF-S 35mm F1.8 DX prime

Nikon launches AF-S 35mm F1.8 DX prime: “Pre-PMA 2009: Nikon has announced the launch of a 35mm F1.8 prime lens with autofocus compatible with the D40, D40X and D60. The AF-S DX Nikkor 35mm F1.8 G is a completely new design for Nikon-mount DSLRs with APS-C sized sensors (or the ability to work in crop mode). The manufacturer suggested retail price is just €243/£199/$199, making it a modern alternative to the traditional 50mm lenses as used on 35mm film bodies.”

Sigma launches 18-250mm DC OS HSM lens: “Sigma has announced the 18-250mm F3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM superzoom lens. Offering a 13.9x zoom range in a body only slightly longer than the company’s current 18-200mm F3.5-6.3 OS lens, this new model features an optical design of 18 elements in 14 groups, including four Special Low Dispersion elements and three aspherical elements to minimise aberrations. Designed for use on cameras with APS-C / DX sensors, the lens is expected to be available from March, for Sigma, Nikon, Canon, Pentax and Sony mounts.”

Olympus launches Zuiko Digital 14-54mm 1:2.8-3.5 II: “Alongside the E-30, Olympus has released the Zuiko Digital 14-54mm 1:2.8-3.5 II lens; successor to the Zuiko Digital 14-54mm 1:2.8-3.5. The new lens has been redesigned to offer compatibility with the ‘High-speed imager AF’ system included in recent Four Thirds DSLRs. The lens is a 3x zoom, equivalent to 28-108mm on 35mm format.”

Sigma APO 200-500mm F2.8 EX lens for Nikon: “Sigma introduces the new APO 200-500mm F2.8 EX DG super telezoom lens for Nikon. The lens has already been available for Canon. Though a weapon permit is not required, it could easily become a lethal weapon in the hands of over-anxious paparazzi. Even more impressive is the lens’ specification, it covers the 200 to 500mm range and maintains its fast F2.8 aperture. The length of the lens is 726mm, the diameter is 236.5mm and the weight is 15.7 kg. The lens will be available next week and sells for about $1590. Per kilogram that is…”

Sigma 24-70mm F2.8 EX DG HSM: “Photokina 2008: Sigma has today announced a new HSM version of its popular 24-70mm F2.8 EX DG lens. This large aperture standard zoom is considerably more compact than its predecessor, thanks to a brand new optical design which features 14 elements in 12 groups, including three aspherical, one ELD and two SLD elements. The HSM focusing motor promises fast and silent focusing coupled with full-time manual focus, and the minimum focus distance is 38cm allowing a maximum magnification of 1:5.3.
