Nikon launches AF-S 35mm F1.8 DX prime: "Pre-PMA 2009: Nikon has announced the launch of a 35mm F1.8 prime lens with autofocus compatible with the D40, D40X and D60. The AF-S DX Nikkor 35mm F1.8 G is a completely new design for Nikon-mount DSLRs with APS-C sized sensors (or the ability to work in crop mode). The manufacturer suggested retail price is just €243/£199/$199, making it a modern alternative to the traditional 50mm lenses as used on 35mm film bodies."

Nikon NAS-L1 Microscope Attachment for DSLR

No GravatarNikon has announced the Fabre Photo EX portable microscope designed for field or industrial inspection use; it has viewing elements but can also mount the NAS-L1 mounting ring to take photos using a DX or FX sensor camera body. An additional FSB-U1 kit will allow similar attachment of certain Coolpix models. The microscope and both attachments will be released on February 20th, 2009. (via TechOn Japan)

Canon and Nikon update firmware: "Canon and Nikon have released firmware updates for the 40D, D3 and D700 DSLRS. All three updates correct rare errors and make minor changes to camera behavior. The 40D is updated to firmware v1.1.1. The Nikon D3 moves to v2.01 and the D700 to V1.01. Full details of all the issues resolved are made on the relevant company's websites. Nikon Camera Control Pro Version 2.4.0: "The new version of the Nikon Camera Control Pro is now available for download. Version 2.4.0 has the following changes: Support for the D3X has been added. - Windows 2000 is no longer supported. - In some rare cases, when images with file sizes of 14 MB or larger were transferred, the transferred images were corrupted.  This issue has been resolved.
