Nikon unveils 24.5MP D3X digital SLR: “
Nikon has announced the D3X, its latest high-resultion professional DSLR. Sporting an imaging sensor with double the number of photosites of the popular D3, the 24.5 megapixel D3x includes similar features such as a 3.0′, 920,000 dot LCD monitor with Live View, 51-point autofocus, EXPEED image processing and HDMI output. To keep up with the demands of stock photography the camera produces 50MB 14-bit RAW files that can be processed to produce 140MB TIFFs. It also supports Nikon’s wireless system and is compatible with Nikon’s new GP-1 GPS unit.”

# Images captured with ‘Rotate tall’, in the playback menu, set to ‘On’, are not automatically rotated for display immediately after capture (image review).
# The following changes and additions have been made to ‘f4: Assign FUNC.Button > FUNC. Button + dials’ ; ‘f5: Assign preview button > Preview + command dials’, and ‘f6: Assign AE-L / AF-L button > AE-L / AF-L + command dials’ menus in Custom Settings:
* The ‘Choose image area’ option has been separated into two options, ‘Choose image area (FX / DX / 5:4)’ and ‘Choose image area (FX / DX)’
* A new ‘Shooting menu bank’ option has been added.
# When ‘Choose image area (FX / DX / 5:4)’ or ‘Choose image area (FX/DX)’ is selected and the function button (Fn) is pressed, the image area setting is displayed in the top control panel, in the shooting information display, and at the bottom of the viewfinder.

The Nikon D700 Unveiled
The Nikon D700 Unveiled: “The much anticipated Nikon D700 made its debut today. The D700 aims at providing the same feature set as of the Nikon D3 without burning a hole in the consumers pocket. Like the D3, the D700 also comes equipped with a 12.1-megapixel CMOS sensor, a 51-point auto focus system with 3D tracking, a 920,000-dot LCD screen and an ISO range upto 6400.
Scheduled to ship late this July, the D700 (body only) will retail for $2999.95 and those interested in the 24-120 VR kit lens will have to shell out $3599.99.
